I’ve defeated General Nazgrim multiple times on different difficulties in Siege of Orgrimmar before I took an extended break from WoW. With the pre-expansion patch, I went to SoO one more time to familiarize myself with my character after the new ability purge.
It’s another raiding day and I faced off against General Nazgrim again. But this time, for once it finally hits me. This Orc general that has been fighting, growing, guiding my character ever since the Burning Crusade is no more. Nazgrim won’t be accompanying me in my assault against the Iron Horde as he died fighting for his duty as the General in Hellscream’s army. I killed him; because for once we’re fighting for two opposing armies in this war.
It might sound weird to be attached to a digital entity who is nothing but a collection of binary codes; but video games have that kind of power over you as it is still a form of art. You can’t help but to get attached to a character like his.
Thus, as my Shadow Word: Pain took away the last of his breath, I’m not ashamed to admit that I teared up.
It’s been quite a journey General, rest now.
